I’m drinking French champagne. I’ve been saving it a long time. I’ve been waiting such a long time for French champagne. I’m drinking French champagne. I’ve been saving such a long time. I’ve been waiting such a long time for French champagne. I ain’t drinking no French champagne. Not your love that I’ve been drinking - it’s your blood.

And I was sorry the way it went down. I know that’s not the way it should go. And I was sorry that you figured it out - I know that’s not the way it should go, but I feel a light inside And I was sorry the way it shook down. I know that’s not the way things should go. And I was sorry that you figured me out - I know that’s not the way things should go, I know that’s not the way it should go, but I feel a light inside. I know it’s not the way things should go, I know, I know -

Version Note 03:37
And over time if you can make that change - if you need to, if it’s ever enough - and over time, well, I can make that change if you need to, if it’s ever enough, but it’ll never be enough. Leave the heart exposed; find the weak point by the telltale glow, and make a critical blow - should be enough to make the whole thing explode. Over time you can make a change if you need to, if it’s ever enough (it’ll never be enough). I suppose it’s the paths to be had, not the paths that they chose, or the questions they posed, or the lines of pursuit that they narrowed or closed. I don’t know. I know the birds in the roof cause the rafters to groan. The meaning’s in stone; if they’re singing, our boys can come home. Over time you can make a change if you need to, if it’s ever enough, but it’ll never be enough, and over time I can make that change if I need to if it’s ever enough.

Colleen 05:11
Colleen, are you wasting your time, all dressed up for the longest wait of your life, like a setup that wanders the streets looking for a punchline? Colleen, are you wasting your time, holding on til the swaying feeling subsides, til the disparate moods settle into a rhythm & rhyme? I see that bridge. I see those lights, I’ll take my money on down to the other side. I couldn’t wait for the cars to arrive. I see ‘em outside. The way we get out and the way we get by, I’ll take my body on down to the other side. Won’t ask you to pray. Won’t ask you to cry. I’m at peace with myself some of the time. Colleen, are you wasting your time, all dressed up for the longest wait of your life, a series of shapes that so desperately crave a design? Colleen, are you wasting your time, holding on til the swaying feeling subsides? If you turn on it now, do you think anybody would mind? Colleen, are you wasting your time, almost ready to follow the waves at quayside? Let the salt lick your tongue like a prizefighter tasting his prime. I see that bridge (etc.)

I know how it all plays out, no need to await the reveal. You can watch it spread through the crowd. They are all afraid to be healed. Just a little spark in the air - just a little smoke to make it real. I know how it all plays out. They know what it means to be healed. I know what it means to be healed. You have only so much sense, you have limited ways to feel, you have no clue how intense - you are just afraid to be healed. Feel it behind your ears; you can feel it snap at your heels. You can look back through the tears, find out what it means to be healed. See Him on the garden path, down among His friends He has kneeled. He is in His moment of doubt. He knows what it means to be healed. See Him hanging in the sky, see Him hanging over the fields, watch the water pour from His side. In that moment all of us were healed. I know what it means to be healed. All your little works. I have seen it all play out. I am not ashamed to reveal the moments where I tipped my hand. I am not afraid to be healed. I answer to a higher power, one who won’t be swayed on appeal, and I’ll be vindicated in the end. I know what it means to be healed.

We were waiting on the Ma’am to arrive, swing open the doors, and bid us inside to a dark, cozy parlour, so warm and so dry - the burning incense, it smelled so fine. We’re transported in the blink of an eye when the Ma’am commands the Great Veil aside. She asks to describe you when you were alive. I look at the Ma’am and the Ma’am, she just smiles. She says, “I know that it’s hard. It’s a difficult time.” So I steel myself, and I give myself permission to cry, but even though I watched you die, I swear - the Ma’am took your dictation from the other side. I know I have to try to see the life beyond life, try to receive with my whole mind, try to open that oblique eye, try.

I was standing on an island or I was standing on the plain or I was in the circle's border or I was trying to explain I was in the AIWASS/“I was”. I'm an instance of an instance I'm an eye moving in sleep you can catch me in a corner I was standing on a street I was trying to explain it I was trying to feel the beat I could hear my heartbeat rattle I'm being pulled from my own feet I'm being where I will be later I'm where I am an hour ago I am still trying to explain it I am still trying to keep hold I am a stillness in an ocean I am a windbreak in a breeze I am a mistake in a mistake and now I feel its gaze on me I am in the AIWASS/ “I was” Spilled ungainly on the ground spread across a tainted seam split open along your thoughts wake up crying in your sheets I wake up crying in my arms don't know how I'm back asleep these are the insides of my eyes I feel them staring back at staring back at - AIWASS/”I WAS”

A Flea 06:39
‘cross the echo ‘cross the palisades 'cross the sea of hands And the banners they wave: How brave. In position. Call it aptitude, Intuition, Or a fickle mood. Keep them captive - not “enslaved”; Not so active. You can always explain. How brave. Form a pattern. Make a statement about it in a recognizable shape. Make them see it. Give them shame. Give them body without the comfort of frame. What they see can't be said aloud - saying it would break the spell; what they see just requires them to admit they recognize its reflection in themselves. It is a symbol, a promise, an echo that's crossed the palisades: an awesome and terrible epoch. A screaming and writhing and thrashing new age. How brave.

In Neon 04:09
If we follow the rain See where the water takes us Let it trace out the streets beyond And flow through the various routes that'll lead us to the different dawns Here's the columnist's house, the sommelier's apartment, the foundation it all rests upon: the secret news, the amateur truths, and the hidden veins that bear it along IN NEON Hold your heart out and say that you do. IN NEON Hold your heart out and say that you do. IN NEON Hold your heart out and say that you do. IN NEON If you see that rain See how the water changes Like it's new to the way it falls Like it holds some dew for the seasoned few Who will notice how it settles at all Here's the artist's frame, The writer's pad and paper, The anachronisms big and small - You know they're true, like you'd always deduced, You just didn't have the words to recall IN NEON Hold your heart out and say that you do. IN NEON Hold your heart out and say that you do. IN NEON Hold your heart out and say that you do. IN NEON How well do you see it? I can't put my eyes on anything else. How much do you need it? I'm on fire, I can't explain it myself. Do you believe it? I'm not the one that you need to tell I've got them old ways, them golden phrases, and cause enough to give ‘em all hell IN NEON Hold your heart out and say that you do IN NEON Hold your heart out and say that you do IN NEON Hold your heart out and say that you do IN NEON IN NEON IN NEON IN NEON IN NEON IN NEON IN NEON IN NEON

When you came down, came down so suddenly, I couldn’t see two feet in front of me. Couldn’t explain, couldn’t describe, Fell to my knees, gave a cry, Grabbed at a sleeve - what would become of me? Beset all around by harsh light and calumny? Body estranged, turned in, toward the mind In search of what grace I could find? The way you came down, so terribly fleeting - They come here from miles around just to watch my heart beating. And as the scales fell from my eyes, heard some kind of choir start singing. When you come around, it’s yr bell I’m ringing. Now I have seen the road to calamity, Heresy, apostasy, and catastrophe. I have received the legible signs, Tracing two fingers across my eyes. I take no joy. This is the path set for me. I am a conduit for something too vast to see. Spend our whole lives claiming we can define it When we’re mere specks on its outline. The way you came down, so terribly fleeting - They come here from miles around just to watch my heart beating. And as the scales fell from my eyes, heard some kind of choir start singing. When you come around, it’s yr bell I’m ringing. (coda; reprise)

Oiseaux regina, Saskatchewan

Existential terror, death drive, humankind's puny shape flailing hopelessly against the intangible body of the sublime, made immanent in ass-shaking, skull-shearing rock music.
